Week 14 - Last Week travelling and going back to UK

Fun time in Brooklyn & then Back to the UK. Our container full of 28 years of stuff arrives.

Saturday October 10th, Brooklyn

We started our great 3 day weekend in Brooklyn with Bonnie and John’s gorgeous apartment. Bonnie took us around her neighborhood and showed us the sites near Brooklyn and Manhattan bridge, including DUMBO!!

Sunday October 11th, Brooklyn

On Sunday we went on a tour of Greenwood Cemetery, a really beautiful resting place for its residents, lots of rolling hills and views of the Hudson River and Lady Liberty. John, Bonnie and their friend Ted were on this walking tour of the architecture and non-denominational cemetery on this soggy October day, followed by an outside quick lunch and beer.

We then had a lovely evening playing backgammon and listening to John and Peter geeking over music and John’s amazing vinyl collection.

Monday October 12th, Leaving NYC

We reorganized our luggage and then went on a walk around Prospect Park in Brooklyn. We picked up a great light lunch from Cinnamon Girl coffee shop and then went back to Bonnie & John’s to pick up our bags and a Lyft to Newark airport.

A few gin & tonics later we are ready for our hopefully not germ tube to the UK.

Tuesday October 13th, UK

We and our bags arrive at Heathrow and we pick up our hire car, also at the hire car place was Richard Thompson, who signed Peter’s copy of his memoir Beewswing which was in Peter’s carry on. He asked if we had read it and Peter said “well we will now you’ve signed it” and he said “you bloody better!”. Too funny!

We drove down to Peter’s Dad place in the country on the Sussex Downs, the weather was sunny and we caught up safely outside and waited for our testing kits to arrive, which they did a few hours later. We then drove into the village to stay in the flat on our own.

Wednesday October 14th, UK

Not a lot happened today as we were a little jet lagged but we went back to the farm to figure out where all our belongings will live once the container arrives.

Our first British curry for supper….yum!

Thursday October 15th, UK

Today was helping sort out a large room in the barn for our contain load of stuff. It was sorted in about 3 hours and we made a pile of Dad’s unwanted stuff for pick up by a local recycle company. Went to Worthing to get our UK SIMS.

Friday October 16th, UK

Our 40ft container arrived, shock horror and early, in two hours we had emptied the whole thing and then an hour later everything was stored in a dry place. It all arrived on time and so far, we did not hear or see any breakages.

We also heard back from a couple of estate agents and set up some appointments for looking at properties on the south coast.

Saturday October 17th, South Coast UK

We drove to Swanage and Warsash to look at a couple of places it was fun to drive down and start our next life stage.

This is the last weekly entry as now our trailer dreams journey is over and they are now on a ship and their arrival is around 1st November and again will come and stay at the farm until we figure out our next home.
