Week 13 - Last Week on Road

Week started Fall Foliage in Catskills & Poconos, going to the original Woodstock venue, saying goodbye to Ruby & BigAl on Baltimore docks .... and ended with probably the best free boat trip in US = the the Staten Island Ferry.

Saturday, October 2nd, Saugerties, Catskills

Today was a small hiking day discovering Lighthouses on the Hudson River and walk through the woods with views of the water.

We met up on our weekly zoom gathering with the Guildford Baldwins, and Granny Scotland. Mum/Jo/Granny is starting to believe we are really coming home its only taken 28 plus years, a bit longer than our initial 3 months those many moons ago!

Sunday, October 3rd, Saugerties

On the road to Bethel, we were in search of as much Fall Foliage as we could find. We were probably a week early for the mass of stunning colours, however by traveling to higher ground in the Catskills, we did find a few stunning pics which we hope you will enjoy.

We ended up in Bethel, eventually became the venue of the legendary Woodstock Festival, which was initially going to happen elsewhere and then they realized they needed a bigger venue as well as getting local opposition, we were in the field where PEACE, LOVE & MUSIC rocked all those who attended, pretty cool place, now an outside music venue and a small museum with an indoor venue too.

Monday, October 4th, Saylorsburg, PA (in the Poconos)

We drove to our last Harvest Host, a small winery and B&B. We parked in a small field near a lake and tasted some nice wines and hard Italian ice cream. We were fans of the ice cream. They were 2 other couples also campers and on longish trips.

Tuesday, October 5th, Baltimore

This is our last long drive and Baltimore is the destination and a campground 45 mins from our roll on/off shippers and just North of Washington DC. This journey was a little intense as there were a lot of trucks and traffic for all of the 3 plus hours. Once we arrived Peter drove off to get our gas cylinders purged and certified for travelling and I did our last laundry before packing.

Wednesday, October 6th, Baltimore

Today, we packed what we would fly with and ship with the trailer. Peter removed the bullbars off the truck as the smaller we are the cheaper she is to travel every centimeter removed counts. We finally finished everything around 4 pm and then had a cuppa and a couple of games of backgammon. We drove to Washington DC to meet up with Lyzz and Morgan sailing friends who are now on the east coast. Great outside venue for yummy food and beer. So good to see Morgan who was at our Bayview Boatclub send off and Lyzz who we hadn’t see for a couple years and is now a homeowner…so cool!

Thursday, October 7th, Baltimore

We left Cherry Hill Campground early to drop me off at a hotel to hang with the bags while Peter drove on his own with the trailer to meet Remie who was our escort into the docks and our shippers. (The Baltimore docks bought about memories of season 2 of the Wire). Four copies of multiple forms, certificates, etc., everything was all OK and our paperwork stamped the truck and trailer AKA Ruby and Big Al will sit on the wharf for a week before being driven onto the ship for their Atlantic sail to Southampton.

Peter and Remie picked me and the bags up and we were dropped off at Penn Train Station in Baltimore to take train to Penn Station New York. It was nice to not be navigating and Peter not driving for this 3 hour journey.

Friday, October 8th, NYC

We had a lovely day walking in NYC through Central Park to the Guggenheim which had an awesome Kandinsky and Etel Adnan exhibition and then to the Staten Island Ferry for great views from the water of the Statue of Liberty.
