Restoration Part 1 - Interior Layout

Updated: May 9, 2021

Decided to use Geoff at Buffalo Homes in Petaluma and he agreed to do following:

  • New "modified" California King bed at back - removing half of wardrobe

  • J Dinnette at Front which converts to bed - removing all of front section

  • New Flooring (replacing 50's Carpeting)

  • New Window, outdoor shower, extractor Fans

Here are the before/after layouts:

And here are photos of original layout:

Early on - good progress was made with the demo:

But then Geoff went through some challenging times with Covid which delayed the project by a few months. By end of year we had a layout

In Jan 2021 after negotiating with Geoff over a number of items like Height of Dinette seating or use of Hydraulic Lifter for Bed we started getting close to the finish line:

Eventually on Feb 5th 2021 we picked up the Airstream:

and left Petaluma - ready for our part of restoration (aka DIY).

Overall the experience with Geoff was positive and gave us confidence to do the remaining projects ourselves. However there were a few issues with his work that we discovered later on, like:

  • AC & DC wires were crossed - probably because of new window

  • Bathroom fan was broken. Main extractor fan missed parts

  • UK Indicators (aka Trafficators) wired together so acted as Hazards

  • Outdoor shower hot & cold water pipes were incorrectly plumbed

These issues are probable caused by not doing the complete restoration project which would need more thorough testing at the end. Having said that we were very pleased with him going "above and beyond" by independently doing custom cupboard doors and very cost effective painting. We would definitely recommend him to anyone else else wanting to do a restoration. Anyways .... moving forward
